Background and Activity within
the Project |
|
The Institute of Materials Science
of Madrid (ICMM) belongs to the CSIC, that is the biggest Public Research
Organism in Spain. The research team of ICMM involved in BONSAI is formed by a
senior scientist (Dr. Sabino Veintemillas-Verdaguer, task leader of WP1, with
expertise in the synthesis of magnetic nanoparticles by laser pyrolysis), three
staff scientists and one post-doc fellow, all of them with experience in the
preparation and characterisation of magnetic nanoparticles by spray pyrolysis,
laser pyrolysis, and chemical methods. CSIC will provide a selection of magnetic
nanoparticles and nanocomposites (generated by laser pyrolysis) in dispersed
form to MPIKG for colloid preparation and will give information on the relative
decomposition rates of different iron and silicon precursors under thermal and
laser heating to CEA and ENEA (for massive production of NPs). Characterisation
of the powdered samples will be done by TEM, XRD, elemental analysis and VSM
(Vibrating Sample Magnetometer). Dispersions will be done by means of ultrasonic
radiation and chemical etching and tested by TEM. Some selected
